Iaido sword practice at Multnomah Aikikai Portland

Iaido

The traditional Japanese art of drawing and cutting with the sword. A meditative solo practice that develops precision, presence, and discipline.

Learn More

A traditional Japanese martial art developed by Morihei Ueshiba (O-Sensei). Multnomah Aikikai is part of a lineage that preserves its authentic teaching.

"I think that instead of analyzing and comparing how each technique or movement is related to weapons work, it makes much more sense to me to see and feel the sameness in executing one's energy by which aikido is distinguished from other martial arts."

What Our Students Say

At Multnomah Aikikai, the sense of community is unmistakable. The instructors are not only skilled but deeply caring, and the senpai go out of their way to support new students with patience and respect. Everyone trains with a spirit of cooperation, not competition. It's a place where etiquette, awareness, and mutual growth are as much a part of the practice as the techniques themselves. If you're looking for a dojo that embodies both excellent instruction and genuine community, Multnomah Aikikai is it.

Dennis V.
Aikido Student

I realize now just how much I have missed the dojo experience, and the sense of having a solid base, or center in life that I used to feel when I was practicing on a regular basis. I feel welcome here, and have been re-inspired to focus on this path.
